In the thermal plant's seawater (SWRO) and well-water RO lines, the DERSCALANT Membrane Program preserved membrane life while enabling uninterrupted operation at high recovery rates.
Challenge
The plant at Çatalağzı treats seawater with high chloride (~9,400 mg/L) and high hardness via an SWRO membrane system, and also processes well water in a second RO stage. At this salt load the risk of scale (CaCO₃, sulphate) and fouling is high; uncontrolled, it shortens membrane life, raises energy use and causes unplanned downtime.
Solution
Using the DERSCALANT Membrane Program, Deren Kimya modeled the raw-water analysis and system data to determine the appropriate antiscalant and dosage for both stages. The seawater line was conditioned with Nitto Denko Hydranautics SWC3 membranes and the well-water stage with ESPA2 membranes.
Result
The system was conditioned to run 24/7 at 50% recovery on the seawater line and 78% on the well-water stage. The membrane-protection program prevented scale- and fouling-related downtime, preserving membrane and equipment life.
